Chapter 6
C6 – Saving a Beautiful Girl
A towering, bald man, measuring at 1.9 meters, gripped a switchblade tightly in his hand and leveled a cold gaze at Ye Hao.
Fiddling with the switchblade, he emitted a glint of scarlet light from his eyes. A derisive smile curled his lips as he warned, “If you want to stay alive, you better get lost.”
“Can I take her with me, then?” Ye Hao inquired cautiously.
The bald man’s presence exuded immense pressure upon Ye Hao.
What’s more, he held a spring-loaded knife in his hand.
“Beat it.” The bald youth’s anger flared when he noticed Ye Hao’s persistence. Advancing a couple of steps, he closed the gap, aiming to deliver a swift slap across Ye Hao’s face.
While the bald youth was a troublemaker, he wasn’t reckless enough to resort to stabbing.
Ye Hao was taken aback.
The sudden assault from the bald youth caught him off guard.
However, an inexplicable phenomenon unfolded next.
Within Ye Hao’s perception, the movement of the bald youth’s large hand seemed to decelerate.
It resembled a slow-motion sequence from a movie.
Though he couldn’t comprehend the why behind it, this phenomenon enabled Ye Hao to easily evade the bald youth’s incoming strike.
Clearly surprised by Ye Hao’s evasive skill, the bald youth hesitated briefly before attempting to strike Ye Hao once more.
Armed with insight into the bald youth’s attack approach, Ye Hao adeptly dodged his assault once again.
“Damn it,” the bald youth fumed, his anger intensifying.
Anger often led to irrational behavior.
Ye Hao’s two quick dodges only fueled the bald youth’s rage. The switchblade in his hand lunged towards Ye Hao’s chest with even greater force.
“Is this also an effect of the divine blood?” In that moment, Ye Hao comprehended what was happening.
Consequently, when the bald young man thrust at him, Ye Hao’s large hand countered by striking at the bald young man’s wrist.
With a resounding clash, the bald youth witnessed his switchblade slipping from his grip. Simultaneously, Ye Hao’s hefty hand slapped across his face.
The slap sent the bald youth into a spinning motion before he ultimately crumpled onto the ground.
“Let’s go.” Ye Hao turned towards Lee Qianqian.
Looking at Ye Hao with admiration, Lee Qianqian inquired, “Ye Hao, when did you become so formidable?”
“We’ll discuss that later.” Ye Hao mounted his bicycle and signaled for Lee Qianqian to join him.
Without hesitation, Lee Qianqian took her place on the bicycle.
As Ye Hao pedaled, taking Lee Qianqian onto the main road, a sigh of relief escaped his lips.
His urgency to leave was prompted by his uncertainty about how long he could sustain that condition.
Ye Hao wasn’t willing to risk it.
After all, his very life could be at stake.
“Qianqian, what were you doing there?” Ye Hao inquired softly.
“I was trying to take a shortcut home,” Lee Qianqian recounted with lingering apprehension. “I never expected to run into such a situation.”
“Where’s your bicycle?”
“The tire is flat. I walked back.”
“Do not take shortcuts in the future,” Ye Hao cautioned, “There’s a security issue there.”
“I’ll definitely never take that route again,” Lee Qianqian patted her chest, still feeling a lingering unease.
“Where do you live? I’ll walk you home.”
“Just continue down this street. Take a left at the second intersection, and walk about 300 meters more.” Lee Qianqian shared her home address with him. Then, she suddenly remembered and asked, “Ye Hao, you still haven’t answered the question I asked earlier.”
“What question?”
“When did you become so skilled?”
“I’ve always had these skills. I just prefer to keep a low profile,” Ye Hao replied with pride.
After all, any young guy would want to impress a beautiful girl.
“Where did you learn martial arts?” A hint of excitement gleamed in Lee Qianqian’s eyes.
“That’s my secret.”
Ye Hao was actually clueless about martial arts, so that’s all he could say.
“Alright,” Lee Qianqian said with a tinge of disappointment.
“Qianqian, I remember you were a top student before. How are your grades at No.1 High School?” Ye Hao changed the topic.
Upon hearing this, a slight smile curved the corner of Lee Qianqian’s lips. “My grades are decent.”
“You should aim for a prestigious university,” Ye Hao advised, smiling.
“What about you, Ye Hao? Which university are you aiming for?” Lee Qianqian’s voice was gentle.
“I haven’t decided yet, Lee Qianqian.” Ye Hao didn’t reveal his intention to secure a spot in one of the nation’s top six universities. Such a goal might astonish her.
Lee Qianqian was aware of his past academic achievements.
“Once you’re admitted, you must tell me.”
“Alright.”
“This is where I live,” Lee Qianqian indicated an apartment building ahead.
“Goodbye.” Ye Hao looked at the girl before him, his heart unconsciously racing.
The girl in front of him was exquisitely beautiful, like a fairy.
As Ye Hao stood there in a daze, Lee Qianqian’s face reddened a bit, and she bid, “Goodbye.”
Ye Hao felt a twinge of awkwardness. He wanted to say something, but Lee Qianqian had already departed.
“I wonder who the fortunate person marrying her will be someday.” This thought fleetingly crossed Ye Hao’s mind. However, he swiftly dismissed it, as he had the monthly test to focus on tomorrow.
“Hao, don’t stress over today’s exam,” Ye Zhiguo gently reassured Ye Hao, who was quickly eating his bread.
Guo Xiu, while pouring porridge for Ye Hao, shot a glare at Ye Zhiguo. “What are you talking about?”
Ye Zhiguo was about to say more, but when he saw the expression in Guo Xiu’s eyes, he wisely kept his words to himself.
“Mom, Dad, don’t worry. I’m not feeling pressured,” Ye Hao responded with a smile.
“That’s good.” Ye Zhiguo hesitated briefly before adding, “Even if you don’t get into university this year, you can take a year to prepare again.”
Ye Zhiguo feared that the college entrance exam might burden Ye Hao excessively.
“Alright.” An idea suddenly struck Ye Hao to pleasantly surprise his parents, so he chose not to argue.
After Ye Hao left, Guo Xiu broke from her routine of clearing the dishes. Instead, she sat across from Ye Zhiguo and posed a serious question, “Will Hao’s results in this exam determine his class placement?”
“Yes.”
“Why don’t we approach Vice Principal Ma for assistance once more?”
“Vice Principal Ma only holds secondary authority. The ultimate decision-maker is Principal Zhou.”
“But doesn’t Principal Zhou consider some of Vice Principal Ma’s recommendations?”
“I don’t even know Vice Principal Ma.”
“Isn’t Vice Principal Ma a friend of your older brother?”
“But my older brother is avoiding me at the moment.”
Guo Xiu’s frustration was palpable. “Hao is his nephew.”
Ye Zhiguo remained silent, simply bowing his head and exhaling deeply.
Unbeknownst to him, Ye Hao, currently in the examination hall, was oblivious to his parents’ concerns.
At present, his full concentration was directed at the Chinese exam paper before him.
