Chapter 41 - FEEL HUMILIATED
Ellena was busy reading a book while sitting on the sofa in her room. After her two in-laws decided to go home this afternoon, Ellena spent more time in the room.
However, she suddenly flinched when she heard the sound of the door knob being opened, a sign that someone was turning it from outside the room. She immediately leaned forward, then turned toward the door. Slowly the door opened and a tall, athletic figure entered the room. That figure was Lucas.
Ellena leaned back against the back of the sofa, knowing who had entered her room. She seemed to continue reading horror genre novels. In fact, she didn't care when Lucas walked up to her.
Before Ellena could finish one sentence of the novel's contents, Lucas suddenly grabbed the book forcibly. Ellena widened her eyes, then looked up at Lucas who was now standing in front of her.
"What are you doing? Can't you just not bother me for a bit, huh?" Ellena got up and stood in front of Lucas on her hips. Meanwhile, her head was still tilted up, making sure that Lucas was taller than her.
Instead of answering Ellena's question, Lucas threw the book on the bed, then he grabbed Ellena's hand.
"It's late. Come on, let's sleep!" Without further ado, Lucas grabbed Ellena's hand as he walked out of the room.
"Lucas, let go! I'll sleep here!" Ellena rebelled by pulling her hand out of Lucas' grip with so much force. However, Lucas was no less strong, so he was able to hold Ellena's hand from letting go of him.
Hearing Ellena's words, Lucas immediately stopped his steps, before they managed to get out of the room.
"What did you say? Did you forget your promise this morning? Do you want to be a coward, ha?" Lucas stared intently at Ellena's face and his jaw clenched in an instant. However, his hand was still tightly holding the arm of the woman in front of him. He didn't even intend to let go of Ellena's hand just like that.
"So what if I break my promise, huh? Haven't you also repeatedly violated our agreement?" Ellena replied while looking cynically at Lucas' face.
Apparently, this time Ellena deliberately wanted to oppose Lucas. In fact, she didn't care about her husband's jaw getting harder and harder. It was time for her to take revenge for what Lucas had done this morning.
The corner of Lucas' lips lifted. There was a lopsided grin on his face. "No! I won't allow you to sleep here!"
Lucas grabbed Ellena's hand again. However, Ellena tried her best not to move her feet an inch, thus making the man again give up his intention to take Ellena away from the room.
"With or without your permission, I will still sleep here!" Ellena said firmly, pulling her hand once more.
"Okay, let's sleep here." Lucas let go of Ellena's hand, then walked towards the bed.
Ellena looked flabbergasted at Lucas' action. She was still confused by Lucas' attitude forcing her like that. In fact, she knew that Lucas didn't have any feelings for her, but why did she want to sleep in the same bed with her so badly?
"Lucas, you can't sleep in my room! I won't allow it!" Ellena balked at Lucas' wish. Her scream instantly made Lucas give up on going up to bed.
Lucas looked up with a crooked smile. "Why can't I? Why should I get your permission anyway? Isn't this my house and you are my wife, so I deserve all of that, right?"
After all, Lucas and Ellena were normal humans who would react when they were too close together, especially if they slept in the same bed every night. Just one night, Lucas had dared to do something unexpected, what if they slept in the same room every night. Wouldn't that be the same as giving fish to a hungry cat, if Ellena allowed that to happen?
"Anyway, whatever the reason, I don't want to share the same room with a man like you, Lucas!" Ellena shrieked in a scornful tone, which made Lucas' veins appear tense in his neck.
"What kind of man do you mean, Elle?" Lucas gave her a disapproving look. Ellena's words had clearly demeaned him, especially the woman's refusal.
Lucas had already judged Ellena's words negatively, because indeed Ellena's words, tone and the expression were more dominant by lowering himself. So, it was only natural that he took Ellena's words negatively. He couldn't understand why Ellena always refused and wasn't tempted by him at all, could it be because she already had a lover?
'Just what a handsome lover she has, that she dares to reject and demean me?' Lucas thought starting to wonder.
Lucas became curious about the figure of the man who had locked Ellena's heart, so he couldn't even touch her.
'How dare he reject me!' Lucas muttered under his breath.
The look is still the same. He didn't want to take his attention away from Ellena's face, who was now confused looking for answers to her questions.
"Answer me, Elle! What kind of man do you think I am, ha?" Lucas sharpened his gaze.
Ellena looked very confused and hesitated to answer Lucas' question. However, she finally spoke up after noticing Lucas' gaze which made her shrink a little in fear.
"Yeah... like—I just don't like sleeping in the same bed with you, Lucas!" Ellena shifted her answer back, feeling confused about what to answer.
There was a separate assessment from Ellena for Lucas, after a few days they lived together in the same house. However, Ellena couldn't say that to Lucas directly.
Lucas approached Ellena again with a gaze that had not been distracted from earlier. He walked slowly and surely, while putting his hands in the pockets of the pants he was wearing.
'All right, Lucas, you don't have to humble yourself by begging her. Just let things flow as they are and make sure she's the one chasing you, not the other way around!" Lucas whispered to himself. "And you, Elle. We'll see who will survive, you or me?
Lucas stopped in front of Ellena, then he smiled. A smile that has more meaning to harass. Meanwhile, his gaze turned grim and vengeful.
'The game is about to start, Elle. Think of this as a punishment from me, because you've dared to humiliate me. Don't blame me, if one day you're going to be on your knees before me!' Lucas thought at the time.
He then walked away with a bitter smile, without another word.
This suddenly made Elena feel surprised.. There was something strange about Lucas's attitude that suddenly just gave up. Hadn't this man never humbled himself because of a defeat?
