Chapter 194: Hanging By A Thread
Chapter 194: Hanging By A Thread
The two of them didn’t say anything more. With so much going on today, they didn’t have time to cook, so they ordered takeout instead. Chu Ge obediently went to work on his writing, while Qiu Wuji released her divine sense in secret to monitor the changes on Old Zhu’s side.
Having Qiu Wuji keeping an eye on things was enough; Chu Ge’s divine sense wouldn’t be of much help anyway. For Chu Ge, no matter how many other things there were, updating his writing was the most important.
Currently, Chu Ge’s storyline mainly focused on the protagonist, Chu Tiange, and his experiences across the sea. The situation on the other side is not a higher-power map like the Nine Provinces, and the number of strong individuals similar to Qiu Wuji and Yan Qianli is also comparable. The main difference lies in the comprehensive cultural and social aspects, no longer following the sect system but rather embracing the system of a cultivator kingdom.
Chu Ge drew inspiration from some of the settings in medieval fantasy and incorporated them into the Eastern cultivation world, including various races and a diverse array of monsters. There was so much material to write about that he had compiled several pages of documents just for the setting. Along with the various characters, the downfall of kingdoms, tragic heroes, and a grand ensemble drama began to take shape.
In fact, Qiu Wuji’s demand for the White Tiger’s Fang was also connected to this part of the story, which would be the intersection point between the two sides.
However, for Chu Ge, the significance of this storyline was no longer purely about the plot itself but about the completeness of the world. By perfecting the entire world, from the comprehensive map layout to the customs, cuisine, and architecture, the world felt as real as it could be. At least, in people’s minds, they could imagine what this world was like.
This was of the utmost importance for Chu Ge.
After the encounter with Du Lianfeng, Chu Ge’s understanding of his abilities became even clearer. He realized that his control over the world had little to do with his cultivation… Cultivation only brought the coordination of space techniques, allowing him to know how to try to gain control, but in reality, the level of control seemed unrelated to cultivation strength.
Now, even with such low-level cultivation, he could already manipulate the rise and fall of the sun and moon in the other world without relying on writing. Although the level was still relatively low, this was something that even low-level cultivation should not be able to achieve!
In the past, modifying Yan Qianli’s White Flame and modifying Qiu Wuji’s ascension were not achievable through his own cultivation. It relied on Game Master permissions; this is his chessboard! The extent to which he could achieve this was undoubtedly closely related to the completeness and acceptance of the world.
The completeness of the world was in his hands, and how much he could bring it to life depended entirely on himself.
But the acceptance of the world…
Chu Ge let out a soft sigh. He felt that his crucial point was right here; no matter how he went around, he couldn’t avoid it.
Cai Zhijian had a good grasp of human emotions; he knew that Chu Ge really needed this.
If he were to seek help from others, who would be more suitable? Should he ask his parents to help this time? He wasn’t sure if it was appropriate or not…
Time for writing always passed quickly for Chu Ge, and when he uploaded today’s chapters, it was already dusk. Qiu Wuji walked in and naturally massaged his shoulders. “Are you tired?”
Chu Ge pressed her hand back and smiled. “I’m okay. Today’s writing went smoothly.”
“I was paying attention to Mengmeng’s side, and I didn’t feel like going out to buy groceries and cook. How about we go out to eat?”
“Sure, if you don’t want to cook, then let’s not.” Chu Ge stood up and said, “My dear Qiuqiu, you’re becoming more and more virtuous.”
Qiu Wuji also felt that she was becoming more virtuous, so virtuous that she felt uncomfortable. Why did she have to explain to him when she didn’t cook? Why did she have to say it so softly? It was truly infuriating. She pinched Chu Ge and said fiercely, “I’m not virtuous at all! I don’t even want to eat! Hurry up and imagine my body as not feeling hungry; I don’t want to eat!”
Chu Ge blinked his eyes and tried to appease her with a smile. “Until I can go without food… please eat with me.”
“You’re selfish!”
“Um… ” Chu Ge carefully handed her a piece of candy, “Have you ever thought that if you don’t want to eat and watch me eat all those delicious things, that would be more uncomfortable?”
Qiu Wuji’s eyes flickered for a moment, and she angrily peeled open the candy and put it in her mouth. “I won’t share with you!”
Chu Ge was about to say something when his phone beeped with a notification. He checked it and saw it was a message from Zhong Yi: “Du Lianfeng’s group booked a flight around seven o’clock. They will be leaving in a little over an hour. I’ve been keeping an eye on them, and there are no tricks.”
Chu Ge replied, “Got it. Did you tell Old Zhu and the others?”
“Yeah, I informed them too.”
Chu Ge looked at the message for a few seconds in silence, then whispered to Qiu Wuji, “We better not have dinner. I suggest going to the hospital and keeping watch.”
Qiu Wuji was taken aback. “It’s not even dark yet. Would he dare?”
“Being cautious won’t hurt…”
Qiu Wuji agreed and quickly teleported away with Chu Ge.
…………
In the hospital, after taking care of her father all day, Zhu Mengmeng rubbed her waist tiredly.
Her mother passed away early, and Zhu Mengmeng had always been the beloved little princess of Old Zhu. She had never really taken care of a patient before, and now she realized how tiring it was.
But even though she was tired, she felt quite happy. As long as her dad was okay, it was the best. Dad was planning to sell that troublesome mine, and everything would be fine in the future. Her husband also had the intention of reconciliation, so she could live happily, have two chubby babies, and they would definitely be cute. As she was daydreaming about what names to give the babies, her stomach growled. She was hungry…
Cai Zhijian said, “Let me take care of Dad. Why don’t you go and eat first?”
Zhu Mengmeng shook her head. “You go ahead, and please bring food for Dad and me.”
“Okay.” Cai Zhijian didn’t insist and left the ward. Before leaving, he instructed the bodyguards, “Don’t slack off. Protect Mr. Zhu and Miss.”
He walked along the corridor, first going to the restroom at the end of the hallway and entering one of the stalls. It appeared to be a normal trip to the restroom.
However, if someone saw him, they would notice that he wasn’t actually using the restroom. Instead, he was doing something very peculiar. He tore off a piece of toilet paper and rolled it into an arrow shape, placing it on top of the tissue box.
Then, he took a step back, as if adjusting the distance, until he felt it was about right. He slightly squatted, leaned back against the wall, and assumed a very strange posture, as if simulating leaning against the headboard of a bed.
When everything seemed almost right, a strange vortex flickered in Cai Zhijian’s eyes. Suddenly, he turned around and swiftly grabbed the pre-rolled tissue arrow from the tissue box, stabbing it toward his own neck.
In the hospital room at the other end of the corridor, Old Zhu was talking to his daughter with a smile on his face. Suddenly, his expression changed drastically as he turned around, grabbed the fruit knife on the bedside table, and directly thrust it towards his own throat!
Zhu Mengmeng couldn’t react in time, and within half a second, the tip of the knife was already at his throat!
A delicate hand suddenly reached out from the void, grabbing his wrist, and then Qiu Wuji’s entire figure appeared.
She had been hiding there, observing for just a few minutes…
Old Zhu, still in shock, dropped the knife, “It wasn’t me! Someone is trying to kill me! Someone is trying to kill me!”
Zhu Mengmeng was dumbfounded, “Qiuqiu… What… What’s going on?”
Cai Zhijian also rushed out from the restroom, anxiously asking, “What happened? What happened?”
Laughter came from behind, “Friend Cai, your silent mime act is quite entertaining. Why not perform a little more?”
Cai Zhijian suddenly stopped and turned to look behind him with a grim expression. A vague figure emerged from the shadows and gradually took on a complete human form.
It was Chu Ge.
Learning invisibility from his mother, Chu Ge didn’t use it to peek at someone bathing, but instead, he used it to track a man in the restroom. Before he could even curse his luck, he witnessed a marvelous performance.
Playing with his phone, he casually said, “I captured a great video of our friend Cai using the restroom. Mengmeng, do you want to see -” Before the words even landed, he felt something on his hand. Cai Zhijian had fiercely pounced, attempting to snatch the phone.
With a loud smack, Qiu Wuji had appeared in front of him at some point and delivered a slap, making him spin like a top in place.
Chu Ge chuckled, “You want to hit me in front of my girlfriend… You’re asking for trouble.”
Cai Zhijian stumbled back a couple of steps, panting slightly, but he regained his composure.
He glanced at the dumbfounded Old Zhu and his daughter, then looked at Chu Ge, and slowly asked, “How did you start suspecting me? My ability shouldn’t have been detectable by you.”
Chu Ge remained silent for a moment, and then said with a strange expression, “If I said it was the result of my imagination as an author… would you believe me?”
