Chapter 59 Hell
Zhang Ye guessed correctly.
Ai Bing didn't even ask how those people were dealt with.
Instead, she devoted herself entirely to the villa complex's wall project.
Starting that day.
She almost spent every day in her room working on the plans.
Or on the construction site, checking the progress with Zhang Ye.
In just half a month.
The foundation hundreds of meters long was almost done.
And the cost was merely over a hundred workers on the verge of being scrapped.
Da Mengzi truly deserved to be called a special talent.
He executed any civil engineering related commands perfectly.
He would even silently bring a cup of freshly brewed tea when Ai Bing came for inspections.
The tea was freshly made.
The water was clean.
It took Zhang Ye and Ai Bing by surprise the first time it happened.
Later, they discovered that this little guy's hands weren't that clean.
He would even pinch things.
Every so often, he'd scurry over to the zombies moving things into the villa complex and reach into their bosoms for a handful.
Demanding bribes and all kinds of perks.
He lived up to the name.
Under Da Mengzi's 24-hour supervision, the construction site's progress soared.
The zombies' superior qualities were fully demonstrated in this moment.
Not afraid of hardship, not afraid of tiredness.
At just one command, they'd work from dawn until dusk.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Twenty-four hours of non-stop work until their bodies could no longer bear it.
Then Da Mengzi would take it upon himself to recruit more workers.
First, he brought back dozens of zombies from the construction site and locked them in the villa.
Latter, he took to the streets.
Anyone strong and healthy, with all limbs intact, had to be brought in to work.
Meanwhile, Luo Xin's department responsible for energy also began to exert its strength.
The entire circuitry of the villa complex had been restored.
What was missing was the generator.
With a generator, the equipment inside any villa could be operated.
The basement was of primary importance.
The lives of the rich were extremely luxurious, with the basement often featuring specialized cold storage to preserve certain specific types of food.
Such as vegetables, fruits, and some meat products that had not yet spoiled.
The generator inside the car was too weak.
Luo Xin then set her sights on the large shopping malls they hadn't visited yet.
Such places consumed a tremendous amount of electricity.
To deal with special situations, they usually had an independent backup power supply.
That is, large generator sets.
(I'm making this up; the knowledgeable brothers, don't take it seriously)
As long as they could bring back one such generator set, it would be enough to meet the current base's needs, that is, the internal requirements of the villa complex.
The biggest shopping mall in Sanjiang City was owned by the Wangda Group, namely Wangda Mall.
----
"Ahhh!"
The scream rang out in mid-air.
A figure smashed through the glass and fell from the building in an instant.
Driving, Ai Bing slammed on the brakes, staring at the blurred corpse in the distance with a face full of fright.
Zhang Ye immediately held the woman's hand next to him.
Then he looked upward.
This was a building more than ten stories high.
The glass embedded in the surface shimmered brilliantly in the bright sunlight.
Following the trajectory of the falling body, he quickly saw the gap in the expanse of blue.
Inside, there seemed to be figures moving about.
To the side were a few big red characters.
Wangda Mall.
Ai Bing had already calmed down.
Only the fear in her eyes hadn't completely faded.
She turned her head to look at Zhang Ye, saw him nod, and immediately parked the car by the road.
The heavy truck following behind them also stopped.
Wang Hu and Du Chao jumped down from inside.
The two of them opened the rear doors of the carriage, which contained twenty bodyguard zombies arranged in two rows.
Each bodyguard wore a steel helmet, carried a shield on their back, and was clad in a black stab-resistant and scratch-resistant bomb suit.
These were the spoils of war that Zhang Ye had brought back from the Security Bureau that day.
A total of eight sets of riot gear.
Added to the haul they had previously confiscated from Fat Cat and his gang of thugs, they now had enough to form a fully-armed bodyguard squad.
This was the confidence that allowed Zhang Ye to venture into the marketplace to test their mettle.
On appearance alone, the twenty bodyguards had completely lost any resemblance to zombies.
The moment their bodies joined the company, the decay had stopped; they only needed to change into a new set of clothes to be indistinguishable from an ordinary person.
The only trait that remained was their pale, deathly faces.
Now, those too were completely concealed by the helmets.
The road in front of the marketplace was utterly congested with vehicles.
All kinds of cars, like countless crushed tin cans, formed a vast jungle of steel.
Among them roamed numerous zombies.
A sturdy shield knocked a leaping zombie to the ground.
Before it could get up, several large feet encased in iron soles mercilessly stomped on its decaying head.
The twenty bodyguard zombies formed a wall with their shields and bodies.
Zhang Ye and Ai Bing walked in the middle.
Wang Hu and Du Chao followed behind with vigilant expressions.
If a head or claw occasionally reached through a crack, it would be swiftly chopped off by one of their fire axes.
As they reached the entrance, a crisp system alert had already sounded in Zhang Ye's ears.
[A new talent marketplace discovered. Employee limit increased by 50.]
[Current employee limit: 170 people.]
Fifty more, just like that?
He silently noted the oddity, then turned his attention to Ai Bing beside him.
"We're about to enter the marketplace."
"Be careful."
"Did you bring the thing?"
The woman nodded, hastily pulling out the high-voltage electric baton that Luo Xin had modified from her waist.
This gadget was no longer of any use to Zhang Ye.
But it was perfectly suitable for her self-defense.
Not everyone can easily come to terms with killing.
After ensuring that every member of the team was ready, the two leading bodyguard zombies immediately pushed open the large doors of the marketplace.
A wave of massive noise hit them in the face.
"Ugh aaah..."
"Gurgle... wu..."
"Sshh..."
It sounded like countless people were moaning in a deep tone.
Or like something was stuck in their throats and they were desperately coughing.
The staggering silhouettes instantly filled the entire field of vision, leaving no empty space to be seen.
From the stores on both sides all the way to the elevators going up, every corner visible was filled with the figures of zombies.
Even the floor beneath their feet was incredibly smooth and moist.
Ai Bing looked down.
Her complexion instantly turned deathly pale.
A dark red viscous liquid was flowing beneath their feet.
One could even see next to them an arm that had been gnawed to the bone; the mix of red and white bones was covered with fine bite marks.
Wang Hu and Du Chao, who had originally been following behind, had somehow made their way to the front.
Their complexions were equally as ashen.
How were they to proceed?
The scattered bones could be seen everywhere.
Blood flowing like a stream.
And in front of them, the heads of zombies rolling and entangling like a mass of worms.
This was no longer a marketplace.
It was hell.
It seemed there were only two possible outcomes waiting for them.
They could turn around and flee.
Or, they could become nourishment for the thousands of zombies inside the marketplace.
But the choice was not in their hands, it lay with Zhang Ye, who had been silently observing the environment around them.
His gaze had been fixed on the elevator some hundred meters away.
The zombies there seemed extraordinarily dense.
Was it jammed?
