505. I’m Going to Smother Him!
"The first one is a universe where only Spider-Man exists. In that world, there is no Avengers, no X-Men, and certainly no Guardians of the Galaxy. There is only Spider-Man Peter Parker and his enemies."
Alex paused for a moment before adding, "To be precise, there are two universes with only Spider-Man. One of them is struggling, and the other still hasn't recovered from Gwen's death."
"I think I have some impression of that," the Watcher said, frowning as it thought deeply.
Although these two universes weren't within the Watcher's observation range, because the Watcher's eyes were interconnected, it remembered seeing similar worlds through other Watchers' perspectives.
In the Marvel multiverse, universes with only a single superhero are relatively rare, though not impossible to find. It's not easy to pinpoint the exact one quickly.
However, since Alex mentioned that these two universes were closely connected to the "main universe," the Watcher soon found the most familiar information in its mind.
"Wait, could it be that you're talking about those two Spider-Men who were pulled from other universes by Doctor Strange's spell?" the Watcher asked.
"Uh-huh," Alex shrugged, not denying it.
"The Time Bard that wasn't just two universes. The influence of Doctor Strange's universe actually dragged several dozen other universes into it, almost causing permanent destruction."
The Watcher recalled the scene with a hint of nervousness, remembering that it involved the safety of dozens of parallel universes. A collision between them could have easily led to their mutual destruction.
Fortunately, the three Spider-Men and Doctor Strange successfully resolved the issue, or else it could have led to a major disaster.
But at the same time, the Watcher became curious.
"Are you suggesting that the event happened because of a change in your world, and that's why such a massive impact occurred?"
"I can't really judge, it was pretty divisive," Alex shook his head. "What I mean is that those two Spider-Men's universes disappeared for certain reasons, and then later, for other reasons, had a continuation."
"I see. So the entry point we're looking for is to enter those universes that ended up in unknown situations due to changes, right?" the Watcher said.
"Yeah, the second universe is similar to the first two, but it's even more tightly connected to the main universe. It mainly deals with some events regarding the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents."
"S.H.I.E.L.D. agents?"
The Watcher slowly nodded, as if recalling or recording the universe Alex was describing.
"At first, that universe followed the development of the New York War, but then it gradually went off track, and it couldn't stop itself. Eventually, it became independent. This might give us some useful information."
"But, as you've said, both of these choices are closely related to the 'main universe.' I imagine you must have a better option, right?" the Watcher asked.
"There's another one, though it's much more 'dangerous.' I can't really say, but I think if there's a universe where we can fully exercise our capabilities, it's this one."
Not hiding anything, Alex directly stated his answer.
"It's a universe where only the X-Men exist, and it has gone through a soft reboot and a full reboot. The current state is something even I don't know."
"Only the X-Men in a parallel universe?"
The Watcher fell silent, not because it couldn't think of a similar universe, but because, in its memory, there were so many universes with only the X-Men, it was hard to count them all.
Time-traveling reboots were the X-Men's specialty. Almost every universe's X-Men would, for no particular reason, reset the timeline for fun.
This made it nearly impossible to find the exact universe Alex was talking about in a short time.
Seeing the Watcher's difficulty, Alex spoke gently, "There's no need to rush. We still have some time."
"Yeah, since you just came out of the contamination, you should probably rest for a while," the Watcher chuckled and then became serious.
"How about this? I'll contact my group and do everything I can to find the universe you mentioned. In the meantime, you should rest here. I'll update you when I have news."
"Alright, thanks," Alex extended his hand.
"We'll keep your identity confidential. There's one more thing I've been meaning to say."
Grasping Alex's hand, the Watcher felt a little nervous. After a brief pause, it slowly said,
"Welcome to our world."
"Mm."
Alex smiled.
"It's my honor."
With that, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the hallway.
"Your honor, huh?"
Turning around, Alex saw Tony Stark wobbling as he leaned against the wall, walking out from the hallway.
"Uh..."
Alex froze for a moment, then realized that the Watcher had somehow disappeared without a trace. After a brief pause, Alex quickly changed the subject.
"Ahem, well, I was just on the phone with some friends from other universes. By the way, Stark, shouldn't you be helping the heroes build a space watchtower in the wasteland right now?"
"Ha! That kind of simple task, I'll let them handle it. I'm a scientist, not a sweaty scientist. hic"
After hiccupping, Tony Stark staggered forward, swaying with light steps, as he slowly made his way toward Alex.
"What is this?" Alex raised an eyebrow at Stark's state.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"Dear Alex, it's been so long, I nearly missed you to death. Watch me perform a new magic trick I just learned—"
Before Tony could finish his sentence, his legs gave way, and he nearly collapsed to the floor. Fortunately, Alex quickly caught him, or Stark would have face-planted on the floor.
"What the hell? How much have you drunk?"
As soon as Alex got close to Tony, the strong smell of alcohol hit him, and he nearly lost his grip. Seeing Tony in this drunken state, Alex was utterly helpless.
"By the way, my cross-era brewing technique has finally succeeded! Hahaha, from now on, we can drink the finest wine anywhere, anytime, and the best part is, it'll be aged in just a few seconds! Can you imagine what that could bring us?"
Tony Stark was moving his body wildly, flailing his arms as though he were trying to breakdance.
"If I had known your mind was this unstable, I'd never have brought you back from that world." Alex sighed, a dark line appearing on his forehead.
"What do you mean unstable? I'm completely stable! The will of Iron Man, do you understand?" Tony adjusted his tie, but his bleary eyes revealed just how drunk he truly was.
"Yeah, yeah, I understand. You can rest now."
Alex tossed Tony onto the couch, snapped his fingers, and a beautiful wool blanket appeared around him.
Tony, now sprawled out on the couch, was much quieter. His eyes were closed, and he started making unintelligible sounds.
Before long, loud snoring filled the room.
Looking at the snoring Tony Stark, Alex rolled his eyes helplessly.
He suddenly thought that if he grabbed a pillow and smothered this snoring guy, it wouldn't be all that difficult.
Suddenly, he seemed to sense something and froze in place. After a pause, he slowly turned around.
Behind him stood a girl wearing a black combat suit with an "S" symbol on her chest, staring at him intently.
"Kara."
Alex opened his mouth, his lips slightly dry.
"You're back."
The anger and awkwardness he had expected didn't come. Kara's reaction was much calmer. She simply smiled at Alex, her eyes filled with surprise.
It was because of her calm reaction that Alex felt a pang of guilt.
"Sorry, I left without a word again."
Kara shook her head gently. "No need to apologize. Stark told us you had something important to do, something only you could handle."
Blinking, Alex's gaze turned to the unconscious Tony Stark.
Though he didn't know what this guy had told Kara and the others, based on the current situation, it seemed like Stark had successfully preserved his life.
Alex chuckled lightly and walked over to Kara. "As long as you can understand me. I really didn't want you all to worry too much."
"You've lost weight."
Kara looked at Alex's face and spoke softly.
The countless words he wanted to say were all blocked by Kara's simple sentence.
Alex's smile became bittersweet. He slowly extended his arms and hugged Kara, gently patting her back.
Kara, not resisting, simply wrapped her arms around Alex's waist, silently comforting the man who had cared for her like family.
Perhaps this was the kind of tacit understanding that developed after experiencing several worlds together.
The atmosphere gradually became calm as the two of them quietly enjoyed the moment of peace.
Hmph—snore, snore.
The sound of snoring, like a drill, broke the peaceful silence.
Alex's earlier calm was shattered by this noise.
His lips twitched, and he forced himself to ignore his growing frustration. He closed his eyes again, resting his chin on Kara's shoulder and taking a deep breath.
Hmph! Snore, snore.
The noise returned.
Alex's breath got caught in his throat.
Enduring for a moment, his blood pressure rising, he found himself growing more frustrated.
After a brief pause, Alex shoved Kara aside and stormed toward the couch where Tony Stark was sleeping.
"Don't anyone stop me. I'm going to smother him today!"
Behind him, Kara's light laugh echoed, clearly unable to contain her amusement.
