Chapter 239
The next twenty-nine days went by very fast. I was busy with hunting, and sparring with Ki'rei. She really had to enjoy it, because she insisted we fought every day. She was a clever fighter, and all the time came up with a new tactic. Throwing things at me, trying feints, and different approaches, but it always ended in the same manner.
I always won. The difference in speed, strength, and a bunch of special skills was just too great. She didn't get discouraged though and kept working hard. In no time, she has gotten better, and better. Her ability to adapt was incredible.
I started to wonder if she was made like this on purpose, or was it just a pleasant accident made by playing with DNA.
I managed to gather 19781 more crystals through that period of time, which was a really incredible number. With this many points, I knew that challenging orc boss is just a matter of time. Even though, I still didn't know where to put those points. Monk class seemed like a decent idea, but I wasn't fully sure if it was the best one. I needed to choose something that would get me the most fighting power.
Battle with the boss wasn't gonna be easy. I remembered exactly how powerful that thing was. Because of that, I had to choose wisely.
I spend the whole two days of traveling back to the city on finding the best solution, and eventually, I thought that maybe investing in classes was not something I needed. There were still the raw statistics. With the points I had, I could buy plenty of those.
Ki'rei was a bit upset that I didn't train with her, but I explained the situation and added that with us getting closer to the city, the risk of her being seen is increasing, so she accepted it.
We split apart in the forest, a bit from the gate. I continued on my path, and she vanished into the forest. When I finally reached the device, it was already dark. I had to wait few minutes in lint, but then could finally sell my score.
I surrounded myself with my shadows and pilled all the crystals on the glyph. 50 897 500 points were added to my account. I started spending them immediately. I began with investing 1400 times in strength and immediately regretted that.
Pine of the transformation knocked me down on the ground. Everything became white. I don't know how long I was laying on the cobblestone, flopping like dying fish, but it was enough for other people to notice.
When I got back to my senses a few guys tried to pick through the shadows to find out what was going on. I puked. My head hurt like hell, probably from all the pounding on stone.
- Are you ok? - somebody asked me.
- Yep. Just invested too much - I explained quickly and went back to the shopping.
Next was my constitution statistic, and I decided to invest 1700 times, and the situation repeated itself, with one small change - this time was worse.
When I regained my senses for the second time, people again were peaking, to see whats going on. My head hurt even more, but fortunately for me, there was no puking. I picked myself up, and yet again put my hand on the device.
Then was time for dex, although I hesitated a bit, because of the pain. I ended up gritting my teeth, and just going for it. A whole 1 600 upgrades. The pain was terrible, but to my surprise, it didn't knock me down. I withstood it.
The last statistic I ended up upgrading, just because of curiosity, was intelligence. I bought 95 upgrades. It was like something hit me in the head, just not from outside, but from inside. My vision went off for a moment, just like other senses, but I didn't collapse. When everything got back online, I didn't feel any difference.
It made me want to invest more points, but I decided to put it on hold since right then I needed to invest in my fighting capabilities. Instead, I invested points monk's 'Ki strengthening' skill to upgrade it to the fifth level. With that and a pair of new clothes, I decided to stop shopping for that day, and rest some.
I still had 8 572 925 points left on my account, and I knew for sure, that some of that amount will go into a bigger Ki pool, but there were also other possibilities.
I made my shadows park the carts in the usual spot, and went to wash myself up in the bathhouse. After that I visited the cafeteria, to have a nice, warm meal.
There was nothing more to do at this hour, so I ended up going to my room with my head full of things I had to take care of tomorrow. I wanted to visit Tam, and say my goodbyes to my friends in case I wouldn't come back from the canyon.
I was feeling pretty positive about the outcome of the fight, but there was still an option for failure. That thing was a complete beast. Normal guns probably wouldn't be able to take that boss down. Maybe grenades, but there was also the fact of him being fast... I realized how lucky we got with Jayadeva's cannon.
Not only because he had it, but also because he was able to aim, and hit the target. In normal circumstances orc would be able to dodge the projectile with ease. And that thing wasn't even the strongest one around.
Even when I got so far, there was still plenty to be done. We weren't even close to being safe in the city. We weren't the owners of this land. We were merely survivors, with powers around us which we didn't even understand.
I had to find out more. I had to talk with Xuvi.
The long hunt came to an end with 8 572 925 points remaining on my account, and forty-two class points.
