Chapter 239 - 239 Armory (1)
239 Armory (1)
The bison horde was certainly not as intimidating as the necromancer’s horde that contained literal hundreds of demons of all kinds. Added to the fact they could be defeated if their heads or hearts were crushed, they should be a much tougher opponent for the current Robus.
The bison horde didn’t even have more than 100 bison, and they were the same as any other creatures, if they received wounds fatal enough on their bodies, they would still be dead without having to destroy their hearts or brains. And seeing the horde of bison running with their life straight towards him, delivering themselves to meet his fist, Robus was more than happy to deal with them.
When the two sides were only a few feet away from clashing, Robus didn’t even bother to dodge a bison’s charge as he went into the fight with his fist swinging wide from his back.
It wasn’t that easy for him to hit the bison’s head due to the demonic beast only being as tall as his thigh, which was not small by any means considering Robus was as tall as the trees, but with his body’s flexibility, Robus was able to angle his fist correctly so that the fist covered in dark earth armor would collide with the frontmost bison’s enchanted horns.
A dull resounding sound filled the area the moment Robus’ fist crashed against the bison’s horns, followed by a loud cracking sound, catching Blake’s and the other two demonesses’ attention as they looked at the scene happening below them.
The bison running at full speed, carrying so much momentum with him while Robus just stood in place and utilized his muscles the best that he could, gathering power from his feet and his whole body, the result should have been at least a draw considering the bison’s might and Robus’ own that had just evolved.
And that was true, the power between the two was about equal with Robus’ fist stopping the moment it collided with the bison that had run for hundreds of meters gathering its momentum.
However, the only thing that was equal was the power of the strike. The result of the exchange couldn’t be more contrasting between the two sides.
While Robus’ fist was stopped in place and there was a chink in his dark earth armor, the bison’s body was not as durable as the dark earth armor and Robus’ physique that even though the bison was able to deliver the power to match Robus’, it was at the price of completely having its two horns and even its own skull breaking under the pressure of the two forces colliding.
.....
The strong enchanted horns that could easily break through boulders and the skull that was easily one cut above the other demonic beasts in terms of toughness, couldn’t handle the recoil as it broke into countless pieces, stabbing the bison’s brain with sharp pieces of broken bones. Killing the bison on the spot.
A black soul orb then floated up from inside the bison’s body, revealing itself for Robus to take.
However, despite Robus having killed the bison in one single punch and defeating it, Robus was not in a fight with a single bison, instead, it was against a bison horde.
The moment the first bison died, the rest of the bison in the horde overtook the unmoving bison as they rammed their horns onto Robus’ dark earth armor.
Robus’ body was not that big for the remaining dozens of bison to ram their horns simultaneously and Robus was tall enough to make it harder for the bison to actually hit his broad shoulder, but at least two bison were able to hit their targets, ramming against both of Robus’ thighs, sending him tumbling backward due to the sudden and powerful charge of the bison breaking his body’s balance.
If Robus had let his body fall onto the ground, then it would only be a matter of seconds before dozens more bison stepped onto his body, doing not negligible damage to his body with their hooves.
Fortunately for him, Robus was very adept at controlling his body. The moment he felt his body was sent backward, Robus quickly increased the speed of his fall and bent his body, making it possible for his hands to arrive at the ground faster before his head did.
Then with his hands firmly on the ground, Robus pushed his body off the ground, doing a backflip that quickly regained his body’s balance after landing on the ground.
Robus had just succeeded in preventing himself from having his body being stepped on by the horde of bison, but with him dodging backward instead of sideways, he only got a split second of rest as the horde of bison already caught up to him.
A thundering roar released from his mouth as Robus welcomed the horde of bison as a worthy challenge that he couldn’t defeat half-assedly.
While the necromancer’s horde of undead was deadlier and supposed to be a greater challenge, the wall of trees and the familiar forest environment gave Robus a very sharp edge to defeat them.
And here, in the barren lands where there was barely anything but ground, slightly elevated ground, slightly concave ground, and his enemies, Robus certainly didn’t have the edge that he needed to fight against a large number of enemies at once.
So even with his renewed vigor and incitement to fight against the horde of bison, Robus couldn’t really do much other than to adjust his stance and his attack so that he wouldn’t be thrown by their powerful charge again.
Instead of counting on one powerful attack to one shot the bison, Robus decided on a more flexible approach where he would be able to weave in and out of the trajectory of a bison’s charge while dealing as much damage as possible to the bison on his left and right by jerking their feet and karate chopping their spines.
Some bison did die from his powerful attacks, but not a small amount of bison also succeeded in slipping their attack in Robus’ defense, causing the huge gorilla to almost be stepped on once again by the horde of bison.
Robus did succeed in surviving against the bison horde attacks, but that was barely it, surviving. He didn’t defeat them as dozens of them still almost succeeded in stomping him on the ground.
