Chapter 158: Chapter 158 – Recovered

Max woke up to the rustling sound he heard.

He opened his eyes with difficulty and saw Nina in the room.

"Ugh… Nina?" He asked.

The girl turned around and beamed into a smile when she saw him waking up.

"Ah, you woke up!" She exclaimed, closing the screen floating in front of her and standing up. "How do you feel?"

"The worst…" He smiled and chuckled dryly, "My throat feels like burning."

"You have a cold, so that's normal." She said, "Wait a minute, okay. I will reheat the meal I brought for you. In the meantime, drink your nutritional supplement. That will make you feel better."

Saying so, she turned around and went to the door. Watching her back made him smile. For some reason, he didn't feel scared of his sickness anymore.

Following what she said, he drank a C-Grade nutritional supplement beside his bed. He didn't know that it also could make him feel better. His mind also became clearer. The fogginess he felt from before was gone.

Was he that exhausted? Probably. Lately, he played more than 6 hours every day and only rested for a few hours before continuing his grind.

'I shouldn't have pushed myself.' He thought as he put down the empty tube. He could immediately feel the change. Warmth spread around his body, and he felt a little bit better. 'As expected from something that cost $2,000 a tube.'

Due to the cost, Nina most probably wouldn't ask him to drink one if he didn't have it in stock. Thankfully, he still had 2 from the system reward a few days ago. And today was perfect to drink it again, as more than a week had passed since then.

'Maybe that's why I got sick? I should remember to stock nutritional supplements. It's costly, but that will allow me to play a lot.'

Before long, he heard footsteps approaching from outside. The door was opened, and Nina appeared while holding a tray with pipping hot risotto in a bowl.

"Have a breakfast, Max. It's a simple meal, but it will fill you up enough so you can drink the medicine."

"Thanks."

Max took the bowl and began eating. Meanwhile, Nina watched him from the side and prepared the medicine he needed.

After everything was done, the girl stood up and took the dishes to the kitchen.

"Just sleep again after this. I need to go soon because the restaurant will need help soon during the lunch rush."

"Yeah." He replied and tucked his body into the blanket. "Nina… Thanks. I don't know what I should do without you."

Hearing his words, she stopped right before the door.

"Wha?" Her face was reddened.

She turned around to complain but saw his eyes were already closed. He was already sleeping.

"Uggh… Idiot. Big dummy."

Without a choice, she left the bedroom quietly.

Max only woke up again when the clock showed 2 PM. He felt way better than this morning.

"The medicine is working wonderfully." He exclaimed pleasantly.

Not only was the technology more advanced than his past world, but medicine also had a great improvement. To think he would be cured in just a few hours was a miracle.

If only there was such advanced technology and medicine in his past world… He lamented for a second but shook his head to forget about it. There was no need to dwell on it.

He had a few new messages. The first one was from Nina.

[Nina: Don't forget to eat! I put your lunch in the fridge. Reheat it and drink the medicine again! I know you will be cured, but just drink it for the sake of it!]

'What is she? My mother?' He chuckled and replied to her.

[Breeze: Sure. Thanks, Nina. I will invite you to a nice place next week.]

[Nina: Really? That's a promise! Take me to an aquarium, then. Hehe, I heard there is a new one open in Lime City.]

'An aquarium?'

To think there was a new physical one open in the real world. In the VR world, people could swim in an open sea to see the fish directly, so the aquarium was usually empty and only used to protect the fish.

Of course, there were some people who enjoyed visiting it in the real world more than the VR world—namely… couples.

'Did she just ask me on a date?' He read between the lines. That must be it.

It made him happy but also troubled him at the same time. Right now, he wasn't sure about his own emotions, especially since that day when he heard Lily singing.

But… There was nothing wrong with accepting Nina's invitation. They had been friends for a long time.

[Breeze: Sounds good.]

[Nina: Great! I can't wait for next week.]

After replying to the message, he looked at the other one. It was from BloodSucker. His editor said that new videos were done and sent to him.

[Breeze: Nice. I will schedule them for the next 3 days.]

[BloodSucker: You better do. And don't forget to record in Tag House and ask for footage from the sponsor. They will probably give it to you if you ask. It's a free promotion, after all.]

[Breeze: Thanks for reminding me. I will do that.]

Tomorrow was the day. His first ad shoot with NoFeet. He was pretty nervous but excited at the same time. How would it go, he wondered.

'I guess I will pack my equipment.'

The one thing he shouldn't forget to bring was his action camera and new wireless microphone. Whether he was allowed to record the shooting process or not, he would definitely had to livestream something that day.

Talking about his livestream, he remembered that he had a bet with his viewers.

'Damn, I almost forgot. But I lost the bet, no?'

The Sky Rail he needed to catch would depart to Paperful City in a few hours. That was why he planned to grind in the morning to get to Tier 3. But that seemed to be impossible now.

'I guess I will need to tell them about the embarrassing secret when I arrive in Paperful City if I don't manage to get to Tier 3 before midnight.'
