“During the last two years of school, Sirius hardly interacted with anyone and gradually distanced himself from me as well. After graduation, we lost contact completely.”
Lady Lisa’s gaze dropped, seemingly recalling unpleasant memories.
“So, you’re not aware of Sirius’s research topics or his whereabouts after graduation, right?”
Reiner originally thought Lady Lisa might know Sirius, but she didn’t expect such a messy relationship between them. With this perspective, the subsequent story became easier to guess.
Due to Sirius and Lady Lisa growing apart, they eventually drifted away, and the cheerful and outstanding Percival became Lady Lisa’s boyfriend. They got married after graduation and had Yako.
Of course, Reiner didn’t know if Lord Percival had done anything to undermine Sirius, but the result was as it was. The process was no longer relevant to Reiner’s goal.
“Yes, my magic skills aren’t very good. Although Sirius often talked to me about his research, besides some basics like the Ableton’s Three Laws, everything else was too advanced for me.”Lady Lisa sighed lightly, perhaps she had never truly understood Sirius, not knowing what kind of dazzling galaxy was in his mind.
In contrast, Percival hardly ever mentioned boring magical theories to Lady Lisa. He always managed to make his wife laugh and understand what Lady Lisa needed. From this perspective, maybe she and Percival were more suitable together.
“Sirius didn’t tell anyone that he was going to quit school. It wasn’t until the next day that people found his departure documents in his dorm. Sirius was from Tristan, but no one went to his home to find him, I don’t know why. There was always a resistance in me, maybe I didn’t want to see such a brilliant person now reduced to such a poor state.”
Lady Lisa looked at her daughter Yako, who was enjoying her chocolate ice cream, and whispered softly.
Perhaps, Lady Lisa also harbored some guilt towards Sirius. After all, she abandoned Sirius in the end and turned to someone else’s embrace. This sense of guilt also drove Lady Lisa to avoid meeting Sirius.
Reiner speculated that he had no intention of judging others’ emotional issues. He only felt a little emotional that the clues he had finally obtained were interrupted again.
If Reiner wanted to find out about Sirius Odman’s whereabouts, he would probably have to ask Percival, Sirius’s former rival.
However, before that, Reiner noticed a detail.
“Lady Lisa, you just said that Sirius is a local of Tristan. Do you know his address?”
Tristan City was large, but compared to the entire continent, it was small. It shouldn’t be difficult to find one or two people, especially with the address and his identity.
“Well, although I’m not sure if he has moved…”
Lady Lisa asked the waiter for a pen and paper, wrote down an address, and handed it to Reiner.
“This is an address he mentioned once. Sirius dislikes going home and usually stays at school.”
Taking the note, Reiner glanced at it. If his memory served him right, it was a region in the north of Tristan, where he had never been.
“Then I’ll take my leave. Thank you very much for telling me all this.”
Reiner stood up, bowed to Lady Lisa, then patted Yako’s head, who had just finished her chocolate ice cream. The little girl still had some cream on her lips, which she licked immediately, unaware of what had just happened.
“Please wait, Mr. Ian Gray.”
Lady Lisa slowly stood up, hesitated for a moment, then asked.
“If you see Sirius, please help me apologize to him for not being able to support him.”
Hearing Lady Lisa’s words, Reiner shook his head.
“I think it would be better for you to say that to him yourself.”
This response struck Lady Lisa as if struck by lightning, leaving her standing there, unable to come back to her senses for a long time.
…
Embracing a straightforward mindset, Reiner immediately hailed a carriage.
“To the north of the city, Engel Street on the northside of White Sail Avenue.”
He tossed a silver coin to the coachman. Normally, the fare from the Astar Advanced Magic Academy to Engel Street should only cost fifty copper coins, so the coachman was instantly delighted.
“Sir, hold on tight.”
The carriage shuttled through the streets. The coachman seemed unbothered by the sweltering summer weather, driving and conversing with Reiner.
“Sir, Engel Street is not a good place. How could such a noble person like you want to go there?”
“Not a good place?”
Reiner became interested. He had heard some information about Tristan before, including the most developed east and the least developed north of the city, but he didn’t know about Engel Street.
“It’s full of beggars, thieves, robbers, and prostitutes. It’s really chaotic there, sir. I think you’d better be careful.”
The coachman seemed wary, as if he had suffered there before.
“Thank you for the warning.”
Reiner nodded, and the carriage soon arrived at its destination.
While White Sail Avenue was bustling with activity, the street extending from it was much darker.
The shadows of the tall buildings on the side of the avenue obscured the sunlight on this street, making it as dim as twilight. Reiner got off the carriage and saw several young people squatting on the side of the street, playing with homemade knives, casting sideways glances at him.
Further down the street, people wandered aimlessly, their eyes devoid of hope, as if lost in the city. Some gathered together, smoking cigarettes, and faintly visible among the tobacco leaves was the glimmer of red powder.
In a corner of the glamorous city, Reiner didn’t expect there to be such a depraved street. He took out the note from his pocket and walked forward.
“Excuse me, do you know this address?”
Reiner asked a shop on the street. It was a butcher shop selling raw meat with dubious quality. The bald-headed owner had a long scar on his head, holding a large cleaver, looking particularly eerie.
“No idea.”
The owner said without even looking, making gestures to drive him away.
Reiner sighed softly. Then, several differently shaped kitchen knives that were originally stuck in the cutting board floated up slowly beside him, pointing towards the butcher.
The chilling glint reflected on the somewhat astonished face of the owner.
Reiner handed out the note with a smile and asked again.
“Do you know this address now?”
