276 Chapter 275: Gaze into the abyss and the abyss gazes back
Cecile returned to his room with a sad look on his face. His parents rarely scold him unless he has done something he shouldn’t do. But that wasn’t the problem for him, the main problem he had was that he didn’t necessarily think he did anything wrong.
In Cecile’s opinion, he simply made his thought known and as usual, the world rejects it. He was the type who wouldn’t budge because people didn’t like his opinion.
He locked his door behind him and quickly ran over to his bed and pulled out a book he borrowed from the library. It had to do with mysticism and spirituality and according to the book a deity is only dead when forgotten.
The new order came with The One religion. It was a rebellion that took place about three centuries that saw the original imperial family and their allies fall. These people were considered the true rulers of the empire but their throne was usurped by the new order and then came this new religion.
It is said the old emperor was a dark priest of the God of death, just like his entire lineage and they were all wiped out, alongside a lot of high-ranking individuals in the empire.
If he were to believe this text then doesn’t that mean the God of death is not truly dead and can be revived just by praying to him? The thought of praying to a very dangerous being like this spooked Cecile and he quickly dispelled the thought.
His gaze shifted to the strange formation drawn on a page that involved three circles within a circular; this will be repeated but in smaller sizes which will be placed by the four sides of the circle and at the center of all the formations. a huge single eye.
He was intrigued by this symbol and kept studying more on this topic more. He soon realized this was the form in which the magic array created by the God of death looked like whenever he used his abilities.
“Everything written about him was written with fear… How can one man be so terrifying?” Cecile couldn’t help but ask.
.....
He was curious about what type of person the God of death must have been. According to the books he has read from the days of the last emperor, it is said a man can become a god. It is said detailed records of the life of the God of death were there and surprisingly it was short.
From a youth whose family was murdered by nobles, he grew up with pain and hatred in his heart as he strived to gain the power to protect everything he loved. These texts told a completely different story and if it wasn’t for the few hidden groups hell-bent on preaching what they believed is the real religion, no one of this generation would have known about these texts. It felt like the world was desperately trying to silence them and if there is something Cecile was sure of the only person who will act desperately is someone losing or someone trying to hide something.
The one religion is already the sole religion in the world yet they put so much effort into suppressing things concerning the God of death.
Why?
Cecile leaned back and pondered a bit before shifting his gaze to the image on the book page. For some reason, he felt drawn to the symbol as if it was some sort of spell. He felt the urge to try using this symbol to find out what really happened.
They say all these things are fake and don’t work most times but he was curious and wished to know.
By the way, he has personally seen priests and Deacons perform miracles and showcase the power blessed upon them by the one. If they are real then the God of death must be real.
Imagine finding out more about this lost religion and attaining the power and blessings attached to it.
Wouldn’t that make him on par with the pope in the capital?
Won’t he be far more powerful than the pope since the God of death had to be killed with the help of numerous deities?
He would finally be able to prove himself right and no one will ever be able to stop him from saying the things he believes in!
Greed flashed across his eyes as his eyes remained pinned on that page but unknown to him, his purple eyes were giving off a green light in them as his greed grew mysteriously.
Unknown to him a dark cloud was gathering above his head and from the darkness two pairs of reptilian darkish green eyes opened, peering at his back and deep into his soul.
Knock!
Knock!
All it took was a few knocks to dispel the strange spell and clouds over his head. He quickly returned it to its original position and covered it with a pillow before opening the door.
It was his mother, Lady Anna. She had come to console him after the event at dinner. Cecile guessed this was his father’s way of apologizing, it’s always through his mother.
Why won’t the man even bother showing his face when apologizing?
Cecile clenched his fist and waited silently until his mother was done speaking. As soon as she left, he shut his door and locked it.
His cold gaze was pinned on the pillow meant to cover his book. The same thoughts crossed his mind but not as strong as before so Cecile was able to brush them aside easily.
He went to bed without touching the book anymore, he decide the temptation was much and planned to return it the next day after class. He slept peacefully that night but at the back of his mind, the events of that night kept running through his mind. It was not something he could easily forget even if he wants to.
A seed has been planted in his mind and all that needed to be done is wait for it to bloom. If he had waited a thousand years already, what’re another few days at worst?
