Rise of the Blood Sovereign

Chapter 93 The Holad Family and Their Fate

93  The Holad Family and Their Fate

Inside a wealthy part of the city Orsvald, a 6 story mansion that could easily house over three hundred people was fully lit and tens of guards could be seen walking around and guarding the perimeter.

The guards were all Bronze Knights, and there were even a couple of Silver Knights located inside the mansion. Even the butlers and maids of the mansion were stronger than average people and had some training and could deal with any normal intruder.

Morn was currently sitting inside a dining hall and was waiting for his father alongside his younger brother and sister.

The two were the bright stars of the family and showed much more talent compared to him. Everyone always pandered to them and praised them for their great intellect and high talent, which had droved a wedge between the talentless Morn and them.

They barely even spoke, and they were one of the main reasons why Morn was living in a smaller mansion near Lyle. He simply did not like seeing his younger siblings who actually did not have anything against him and were always cordial and polite to him.

They never disrespected him and always behaved like normal siblings, but he could see that deep inside of them, they truly did not care for him, not in the slightest.

His mother was also present, and although he was nearly forty right now, thanks to her being a Silver Knight, she still looked as if she was in her twenties and one could easily mistake her for his sister, and not his mother.

There were currently three guards and four butlers present inside the dining hall. The butlers waited for the chefs to deliver the food so that they could place it on the large dining table.

The large door of the dining hall suddenly opened as a middle-aged man with a clean-shaven face entered.

His jet-black hair was slicked back and a pair of eyeglasses could be seen decorating his face. His gentle demeanor hid the ferociousness and strictness of Lordic Holad, the head of the family, and Morn's father, a Tier III assassin and a noble of the city of Orsvald.

The Holad family was a long-time ally of the Rain family, the ruler of the city. They had been close for decades and even had some familiar bonds as some of their family members had married the respective families in the past, making their alliance immensely powerful and thick.

After some unfortunate incidents during the war against the enemy empire, the house of Holand had lost many of their powerful combatants and was thus forced to get rid of some of their property in order for the other allies of house Rain not to weaken them further.

They had slowly been climbing back in the last couple of years, and it was mostly thanks to Morn's father who showed incredible talent in the past and had managed to rise high in the Midnight Dagger.

Most of the houses were aware of his true identity and feared him thanks to his incredible personal strength and the ability to kill most of them without ever being seen.

Even though the man looked very gentle on the outside and had great control over his emotions, he was a ruthless assassin whose hands were stained by blood from his many victims.

"Morn, it's nice to see that you have made it, you have been absent from dinner the last two days." Lordic suddenly said as he sat down, but not before patting the heads of his two younger children and telling them they did a good job during their training session today.

The two kids were 12 and 14 years old, with Jacob, the younger brother of Morn, being the youngest.

Thanks to Lordic having a lot of work to do in the past, he and his wife decided to first have one child and to focus on raising him well and training him to be a pillar for the next generation of the family, only to be disappointed after seeing lackluster results in his youth.

The young man tried his best, and the two never blamed him as they could see that it was simply a matter of him having barely any talent.

They tried to shift his focus to doing other things and not training to be a powerhouse like in the beginning, but the young man had become obsessed ever since his childhood to become a powerful figure and would not do anything else.

With regret, Lordic and his wife allowed him to enter the Midnight Dagger, fully knowing that he would perform poorly. They just didn't expect him to not only do poorly but to become incredibly arrogant thanks to his backing and not care about forming any connections with others.

That led to Lordic stopping any form of backing he had previously done and making Morn aware that from now on, he was responsible for himself and that nobody from the family would be cleaning up his mess.

That only happened recently and was the main reason Olman had managed to persuade Morn to attack Lyle and get rid of him.

"Yes, father, I was busy with my mansion and planning my next missions, so I didn't come," Morn said calmly as his father nodded to him, a slight smile forming on his face as he was clearly happy to hear that.

Even though he was ruthless to his enemies and targets, Lordic was a man that cared for his children, although he sometimes didn't show it well. Even for Morn, a young man full of mistakes, he still cared for him, even though he had distanced himself from him the last couple of months in order to have him realize that he needed to act more mature and not only count on the backing of his family for everything.

"Well, now that we are all present, let's have dinner," Lordic said calmly as he looked at his wife and smiled at her.

The butlers opened the doors and the maids arrived with the chefs, carrying plates of food for the family.

The family all ate without speaking, it was a family rule that during any meal, there would be no conversation and that they should eat in peace and show good manners.

Even though the family had transformed into a family of assassins because they had to in the past, they were still a noble family and would frequently be called to many social gatherings and banquets that other noble families hosted. They had to show proper etiquette so as to not embarrass themselves and the family.

Upon finishing their meal, they all started having a conversation while Morn was obviously struggling with something.

His left hand was placed in his pocket and started to shake slightly as he attempted not to do what Lyle had ordered him to do.

"Morn, what's the matter?" Morn's mother saw that something was wrong with her son and showed a look of concern as she looked at him.

Morn looked up and tears suddenly started flowing down his cheeks as he suddenly took his hand out of his pocket.

A small vial was in his hand, and without further ado, he suddenly lifted his hand and slammed the vial on the table, allowing the poison that was inside the vial to break out and form a cloud that enveloped the entire dining hall and more with a toxic cloud in an instant.

"Morn!" Lordic suddenly sprung up from the ground and grabbed his son by the throat, but he let go of him upon seeing his face. Tears flowed without stop as he sobbed.

"What, what have you done, son?" Lordic asked Morn who could barely speak.

"I- I made a mistake, I- I'm so, so sorry!" Morn shouted out between his sobs as he fell down to his knees.

"I- I messed with the wrong person, and- and I couldn't control myself, he had full control over me and my actions!"

"I- I know it was some sort of poison inside, but my hands moved by themselves, I- I don't know if there is an antidote."

Morn's father and mother both had looks of despair written on their faces upon hearing his words.

Lordic tried to speak and send for a doctor, but blood suddenly started flowing down his nose.

Upon noticing that, he looked around, only to notice that the butler and maids were already down on the ground, their breathing had slowed down considerably and they had little time left.

The same could be said for the two siblings that still hadn't reached the Bronze Knight level, while the guards and Morn were bleeding and were slowly losing strength.

Lordic suddenly fell down to his knees before a pair of gentle arms hugged him from behind.

The pale face of his wife appeared next to him, a sad smile plastered on her face.

"At least … we all get to leave together, darling." She weakly said, trying to comfort Lordic before collapsing after a few seconds and falling down to the floor.

Lordic was a Golden Knight, so he was able to last longer than any of them,  but that could easily be said to be a curse as he was forced to watch his entire family die before the cold embrace of death came for him.
