Chapter 1349 Reminders of the Night
Rex came here expecting to subdue Kyran physically.
A Werewolf succumbing to their anger is a normal occurrence.
Most of the time, pinning them down until the anger passes is the course of action.
Because of that, he was expecting to keep Kyran at bay.
It was his role as the Alpha to keep his pack members in check, and the System showed that by giving him a penalty for letting this occur—for letting Kyran succumb to his anger. Instead of what he expected, Kyran engaged in a different kind of battle.
He was calm earlier but he was now livid.
Maybe it was because of his decreased sanity but he felt that Kyran looked down upon him.
Of course, there was some truth to what Kyran was saying.
Rex has no right to say anything as once he went berserk, he also couldn't regain control.
It was hard for him to regulate his emotions.
Every single time he went loose, innocents died, and that's his say on the matter amount to.
But the moment Kyran asked whether he was afraid of abandoning his Humanity or even was afraid of becoming a monster, was the moment he felt ridiculed. It was as if his determination was taken lightly and spat at.
Rex gripped Kyran's arm tightly and stared into his eyes.
He already towered over Kyran, not only was he bigger but he was also upright, not hunched.
No words came out of his mouth but his mind was racing with thoughts.
From the moment the System got inside of me and I decided to use it was the moment I had already made peace—with becoming a monster. My will remains strong. Maybe my goal had changed but the cost is still the same.
In order to avenge my parents and kill Ruston, I knew I needed to become a monster.
Now, in order to make sure everyone was safe, I knew I needed to become a monster.
A different goal but the cost is the same.
I'm afraid to make the people around me, see me differently...? Don't make me laugh. How do you think I reached here? I don't care about what anyone thinks. As long as my goals are met—what's there to worry about others' thoughts?
Rex bared his fangs, growling at Kyran with a lethal light behind his crimson eyes.

Slash!
In a flash, Rex empowered his claws with the Executor Slash skill and sliced Kyran's arm that was penetrating through his stomach, completely. Blood gushed out of Kyran's severed arm, in slow motion, but Rex didn't stop there.
He enhanced his fangs with the Absolute Predominance Fangs skill and bit down hard.
Kyran's other arm was torn off savagely.
But that was still not enough.
Rex headbutted Kyran hard while still having the freshly severed arm in his mouth.
All of that happened in the time it took Kyran's heart to beat.
Once he realized what had happened, a painful growl escaped him as the pain was immense.
Both his arms were torn in an instant without him having the time to react.
Ignoring his agony, Rex cast the Black Field Orko spell, summoning a singular black tentacle to push Kyran forward as he fell backward. Once Kyran stumbled forward—he was met with a skull-crushing punch that sent him flying away.
He crashed against a thick tree and bounced off of it.
Kyran grunted, his regenerative ability was kicking in and restoring his severed limbs.
But as he lifted his gaze, his breath got stuck in his throat.
Rex was looking at him with a maniacal smile, the air of bloodlust was thick around him.
"Becoming a monster?" Rex laughed, humorously, in a blood-crazed manner. He took out the arm that was stuck in his stomach and devoured it with one bite. "All of my side you saw was from the sidelines and maybe that is why you haven't realized it. Let me give you a show you won't forget!"
"A view from being my enemy should make it clear. I already am a monster" He declared.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Upon hearing this, Kyran felt a paramount fear.
Being the target of the torrents of killing intent coming from Rex, his senses screamed.
Most of the time, Kyran's keen senses were an advantage, that would aid him in battle or any other situation. But at this moment—it became a stark disadvantage. His keen senses picked up the primal danger coming from Rex.
It seeped into his skin, muscles, and bones, warning him that his life was at risk.
'Run!'
His inner voice thundered, loading the words with utmost urgency that struck Kyran's mind— like a hammer to the head. Cold sweat, oozes out. His teeth clattered in fear and with a small twitch of his brain, he turned and hid behind a tree.
Iris caught everything that had happened and her lips bloomed with a wry smile.
"He's the Alpha, alright..." She mused, shaking her head at Kyran.
Just then, however, Iris saw that Rex hadn't returned to normal—his aura was still flaring in a frenzy. His killing intent too, it was still choking the air in the area. Frowning, Iris sprang from the side and to the center.
"Your Majesty, it is done, you suppressed Lord Kyran" She lifted her hands.
Iris was trying to tell Rex to stop but it didn't seem to work.
As opposed to stopping, Rex's eyes burned with an even greater flame of bloodlust.
Seeing this, Iris took an uncertain step back.
'Did he also fall to the Demon Moon?' She frowned—sensing the situation was about to really escalate. 'No... He's still in there, fighting against his wrath. It's still not complete, I could stop him but I need to act fast!'
Rex was still stumbling forward, shaking his head a couple of times.
It was obvious that he was trying to resist his anger.
Knowing that her window was tight, Iris leaped back, readied her bow, and pulled the string.
"Dark Nature Spell, Moon Bliss Arrow..."
As she drew back the string, chanting softly, a radiant dark-blue arrow took form.
She wrapped her legs on a tree branch, hanging upside down—and took aim at Rex.
Swoosh!
Iris let loose of the arrow as it pierced the air, creating a whistling sound like a missile, and hit Rex directly on his forehead, recoiling his head backward. Instead of piercing his forehead—it splashed into energy that seeped into his head.
Moving like a gust of wind, Iris leaped to another tree and fired another arrow.
She did it three times, striking Rex's head from all four directions.
Once her last arrow struck its destination, she lowered her bow, "That should certainly do it"
Splash!
A glass-shattering sound echoed once all four arrows' energies seeped into Rex's head and once it did—Rex blinked and the bloodlust behind his eyes disappeared. He slowly tilted his head down and recalled what had happened.
"Erghh..." He grunted. "I can't believe that got to me"
Landing gently like a feather, Iris came down, "Are you alright now, Your Majesty?"
"Hmm, thanks to you it seemed," Rex nodded, surprised inside that Iris could calm him down.
<Warning: the user's sanity is decreasing!>
Despite Iris' help, the main problem still persists.
"Where's Kyran?"
"He's behind that tree, you scared him" Continue reading stories on empire
"Good, I was meant to do that"
Going over to the tree, Rex circled it and found Kyran was mirroring him.
He went left and Kyran went left, he went right and Kyran went right.
"Come out, Kyran!" Rex shouted, annoyed that Kyran was acting like a scared puppy. Then again, Rex did show Kyran a terrifying sight, that was probably engraved in his mind. "I will not kill you so come out of there"
Upon hearing this, Kyran hesitantly comes out.
His arms were still recovering and he looked pitiful because of that.
On top of that, he was still scared.
Kyran was undoubtedly still in his berserk state—his animalistic slitted eyes displayed that clearly, but because of what Rex showed him earlier, he became docile. His anger was still burning inside but the fear of Rex was even greater.
Seeing Kyran in this state, Iris forced out a wry, hesitant smile.
She couldn't believe that Lord Kyran who executed her kingdom could end up like this.
'Above the clouds, there's still the sky...' She pondered.
"Don't look at him," Rex suddenly said and Iris instantly averted her gaze. "It's improper"
"My apology, I was wrong," Iris apologized and kept her gaze elsewhere.
Even though she was not allowed to look, her periphery caught the sight of Rex transforming back to his Human form. His aura drastically lessened—as he did that. Now that the situation had been settled, Iris asked, "Should we go check on Lady Naela's condition?"
Upon hearing this, Rex lifted his gaze, remembering something.
"No," He shook his head. "I need to ask Kyran something first"
Making two deliberate steps toward Kyran, he stood before Kyran and crossed his arms.
"Now, Kyran, I have a question for you"
"Hurghk?"
"Tell me, which among these dead bodies is the one who caused all of this"
Kyran was taken aback, his eyes swept the bloody scene and hesitantly shook his head.
As much as he wanted to kill the perpetrator, he didn't know what happened.
He remembered chasing after the perpetrator through the woods—his vision narrowing with the sole intention of ripping the perpetrator to shreds. But along the way he blacked out and from the looks of it, the perpetrator managed to escape.
It seemed Kyran was lured here and got occupied by the human colony.
"So the perpetrator's identity is still unknown..." Rex whispered with lethality.
Making a sharp turn, he gazed at Iris.
"Iris, please make sure that nobody, not even your sentries—is in the area. I want nobody to see what was about to happen here. Also, give some distance to them, I don't want them to be disturbed by the screams" He instructed with eerie calmness.
Upon hearing this, Iris gulped and nodded her head.
On the other hand, Kyran moved forward with his knees, "Please, don't leave me here!"
"I'm sorry, Lord Kyran. I can't help you," Iris replied before dashing away.
As she left the area to give them some space, Rex and Kyran were the only ones there.
Kyran had grown his arms back—but he used them to crawl back until he was cornered by the thick tree behind him. He raised his hand with fear in his eyes as he looked at Rex who was approaching him with small steps.
"I'm going to teach you a lesson, Kyran" Rex said hauntingly.
In response, Kyran defended himself, "He's an Angel and he's strong and faster than me!"
But even then, Rex turned a deaf ear.
He continued to approach slowly.
Biting down his teeth, Kyran continued, "There's no way I could catch him, it's impossible!"
Just as he said that Rex placed his foot firmly on Kyran's chest.
"Don't be mistaken—I am not going to beat you up because you failed to capture that Angel," Rex leaned down, his crimson eyes glowing with controlled power. "I am going to beat you up because you failed to protect Naela and worst of it all... you failed to avenge her"
"W- What...?" Kyran's voice trembled, he miscalculated.
Rex raised his right hand as his fingernails elongated with unsettling bony sounds—and coated them with steaming red force, "Let this pain I am going to inflict on you be a real reminder. Naela survived this time but she won't be if you fail again"
"If you let something like this, happen again—I hope Naela dies. And even if she was able to somehow survive again, I'll kill her," He smirked deviously, leaned closer, and whispered. "So that her death would be your fault and you could drown in regret for the rest of your life"
Upon saying that, Rex struck with savage ferocity.
For more than ten minutes, that entire sector of the forest was filled with painful screams.
It was so loud that it reverberated for miles, reaching Iris' ears.
Iris looked down and tried to distract her mind with hummings—but the raw pain from these screams was palpable, she couldn't help but wonder, how ruthless one could be to punish a close family as hard as this.
