Chapter 1350 Constricting Trouble
Pain is oftentimes the best prevention method.
Rex suspected that something had happened to Naela to push Kyran into this blood frenzy, he remembered back when he asked Naela, she told him that she was making quite steady progress in opening up Kyran and his iron heart.
It seemed she managed to soften his heart and made Kyran care about her.
So much that he went berserk like this.
But the problem was Kyran didn't focus his anger on a singular goal.
He was so consumed with anger he cared nothing other than killing anything around him.
Alas, the influence of the approaching Demon Moon might pose—as an influencing factor but it was still unacceptable. Rex taught Kyran a lesson, with his claws, he wanted to make Kyran remember that before anything, the one who caused the pain should be aimed first.
Failing to protect a dear one is one thing, and failing to achieve vengeance is another.
Since Kyran failed to protect, at the very least, he should succeed in vengeance.
Meanwhile, a mile away from Rex and Kyran.
Iris counted the passing time through the moonlight and noted it had been fifteen minutes.
But the scream already stopped a couple of minutes ago.
Rex should be done, she didn't know why it was taking him so long to inform her.
Just then, however, a Dark Elf sentry leaped down from a tree and landed in front of her.
He seemed to bear news.
"What's wrong?"
"Our sentries were scouting for clues around the area of the incident and found nothing"
"If that's the case, why are you here?"
Keeping his gaze down, the Dark Elf extended his hand and gave Iris a parchment scroll.
Nothing fancy, there was no energy or spell engraved on it.
A regular rolled scroll without any distinctive trademarks or ornaments.
Accepting the scroll, Iris checks the scroll to make sure.
"It was found in Lady Naela's mouth," the Dark Elf explained further hesitantly.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Not expecting such a bizarre thing, Iris frowned and quickly unrolled the scroll.
Since it was inside Naela's mouth, the perpetrator must be the one who left the scroll behind—a message that the perpetrator wanted to be known. As she read the content the frown on her face deepened.
It was a short message and the intent and to whom it was directed to was clear.
Footsteps could be heard coming from the side.
Both the Dark Elf and Iris became alert but soon realized that it was Rex.
He was dragging the bloodied Kyran by the nape, it seemed Kyran was unconscious.
Rex lifted Kyran and handed him over to the Dark Elf.
"Bring him back and make sure to put him beside Naela," He instructed sternly.
Upon hearing this, the Dark Elf nodded—carefully took Kyran from Rex, and dashed away.
Iris looked at Rex and found that he was pale, it was evident.
He was so pale that he seemed sickly and his balance was also all over the place.
"Your Majesty, are you perhaps wounded? Do you need to be healed too?"
"No, it's the Demon Moon. My sanity is dropping, ignore my paleness"
Rex shifted his gaze and noticed the scroll on Iris' hand, he then nudged his chin at it.
"Is there a problem?" He asked.
"I wouldn't say it's a problem," Iris replied and handed him the scroll. "It's more of a clue"
Seeing that Iris was encouraging him to read the scroll, Rex opened it and read its content.
Almost instantly after he read the scroll, his expression turned dark.
In the scroll was a message written in holy hieroglyphics.
Using the System to translate the hieroglyphics, Rex knew that this was Angelic language.
It translates,
'For the Emperor, Rex
Silverstar'.
Just from the message alone, Rex knew that Naela was attacked because of him.
She was beaten to almost death, for him.
Despite the bubbling anger that was about to erupt like a volcanic mountain inside of him, he refrained, from doing anything rash, and placed the scroll, into his inventory. He then headed to the side and stood before a massive tree.
Iris was confused as to why Rex stood there, facing the tree unmoving.
But in the next second, Rex balled a fist, pulled his arm—and struck ahead.
His raw punch completely destroyed the big tree—that was as tall as a ten-story building.
And the violent gush his punch created continued, breaking more trees in a straight line.
"How...?" Rex muttered hauntingly, his eyes bulging with anger. "How did they know? Radiel... Catherine... or the third Angel? WHO?!!" He shouted—his aura exploded, as his mind raced to find out how the Angel decided to mess with him. "It doesn't make sense"
Since he was only in contact with the Angel traitors, this doesn't make sense.
It doesn't make sense how the Angels were able to identify Kyran and Naela.
It also doesn't make sense how the Angels know where to look for them.
Attacking Naela in the Dark Elf territory meant that, they also knew the location of Dargena City so Rex's mind instantly wandered—towards the Angel in his city. Aside from them, few people knew about Dargena City.
Rex took a deep breath, he might not be thinking straight if he fed his anger.
He took a couple of deep breaths and calmed his nerves.
"All of the high-rank Supernatural races knew about the Dark Elves' affiliation with my new empire. Someone might have sat down with the Angels and told them about it and likely, it was the Undead" Rex mused lightly, contemplating the situation.
But the Undead wasn't only the loophole, "Elder Tilrith might also be the perpetrator"
Despite the Demons' bad blood with the Angels, she was still a suspect.
In fact, it was because the Demons have bad blood with the Angels that she was a suspect.
Knowing that the Demons made aggressive contact first, with the Angels meant that they were also in regular contact with the Angels—and their bad blood could possibly turn into another thing entirely.
Rex massaged his forehead, he was aiming to deal with Chaos first.
"Fourthborn is the number one threat and I fear if I got distracted by the Angels, he would be free and catch me off guard. Even then, it would be unfair to Kyran—and make me look weak if I do nothing about this" He mused, the troubles kept piling up.
"Your Majesty..." Iris suddenly called from behind.
Upon hearing this, Rex rubbed his face one last time before turning towards her.
His expression returned back to normal.
"Sorry for the unsightly sight, you must feel uneasy being with me"
"No, not at all... It's alright, Your Majesty"
Rex nodded but before he could say anything, Iris intervened.
"I was about to say, the one who attacked Lady Naela, it might not be the Angels"
"Hmm? What do you mean by that?"
"Zyrkan, Lady Naela's father told me that he fought with one, and despite him trying his best to make his opponent use their power to see whether they really are an Angel or not, he was not able to. He said his opponent is reluctant to use their power"
Hearing this, Rex waved his hand.
Despite what Iris said, there were a lot of reasons why that was the case.
"If the Angels who came here could take down Naela and escape from Kyran, they should be around your strength. Since you and King Jorik, or the other strong Dark Elves are here, they might be afraid to alert you guys," Rex denied. "It doesn't mean they're not Angels"
Even though she believed otherwise, there was no point arguing Rex.
She needed to prove and as far as Rex was concerned, he might be the right one.
<Warning: the user's sanity stat is reaching critical levels!>
Rex grunted when the notification appeared, he checked—and saw his sanity stat was below thirty percent already. Since he was now stronger mentally, he was able to endure better but there was still a limit.
"Iris..." He groaned—pain in his voice. "How many Knights are here?"
"Knight-rank Order Beasts?"
"Yes, how many?"
"I believe there are three—but they aren't making too much of a ruckus right now. Two Earth Knights and one Lightning Knight"
"Good, prepare your forces. I need you to do something for me. Also, I had a change of mind, bring Kyran back to me"
"As you wish, Your Majesty"
...
Moments later.
Several battalions consisting of hundreds of Dark Elf riders could be seen charging out of the main gate—of the capital city—each one boasting the strength of the eighth-rank realm. Just from their gaze and aura alone, their lives were honed through combat.
People of the Dark Elf Kingdom called these riders the Ashen Blades.
It was a department that hosted even the Ash Assassins.
An elite department that only answered to the high nobles and the King himself.
Since Iris was the Marchioness and brought word—from the Emperor, the department answered and deployed instantly. Led by fifteen, Dark Elven captains who had broken through to the ninth-rank realms, the battalions charged forward.
Mounting a powerful mutated blue-fanged panther, the forest's layout was blitzed easily.
Located at the very front was Iris herself.
"Iris, what's with the sudden deployment? What did the Emperor request?" A Dark Elf—who matched Iris' speed, on the right asked. None of them were briefed about the mission, all of them were called and told to follow Iris.
Another Dark Elf wearing an eye patch asked, "Is it another war?"
Considering the nature of their department, a question of war wasn't that far off.
Most of the time, they were deployed if the Dark Elf Kingdom—was in deep trouble.
But Iris smiled in response, she shook her head, "Not quite,"
Upon hearing this, the Dark Elven captains frowned in confusion.
If not that then for what else would they be deployed?
Just then, Iris informed them about what they were doing—and once she did, the Dark Elven captains' expression paled. Both of them couldn't believe—what they were hearing, it almost made them want to try pinching themselves to see if they were dreaming.
Nevertheless, the serious expression on Iris' face showed that she was not playing around.
Realizing what they were called for, the two Dark Elven captains sighed.
"Then I guess this might be our last time talking,"
"I agree, it's a pity since we only reached the ninth-rank realm recently. But, if the Emperor was the one who asked for it then we shall gladly give up our lives. He spared us and even gave us another chance"
Iris giggled, she knew the absurdity but Rex asked for it.
However, Rex was not unreasonable.
"Here," Iris said, handing them a pouch. "Take one and give the other captains one"
"What is this, Iris?"
"Don't know but the Emperor told me to crush it if you felt like your lives are in danger"
Your journey continues with empire
Nodding their heads, the three separated to share the content of the pouch.
All of them zoomed through the forests, trembling the ground with their march and once they reached a certain point—the massive battalion divided into three groups. Iris led the group at the center, the Dark Elf with an eye patch led the left group, and the Dark Elf—with a magical crossbow led the right group.
From a bird's eye view, the three groups kept in formation tidily.
Each one heading to a specific direction with intention.
Inside a cave somewhere within the Dark Elf territory, a mutated hedgehog came out.
Just from the way the other mutated animals ran from its sight, it was certainly the top dog.
Another one, a mutated snake hissed and came out from a small cave behind a waterfall.
Its reptilian eyes looked into the distance.
Lastly, eating mutated plants peacefully—was a mutated hare, it tilted its head in a direction, lightning sparking in its eyes. It sensed the change in air, the peaceful wind was vanishing in a rapid motion.
Almost instinctively, all three of these mutated animals sensed the shift in air.
Trouble was approaching, they were being preyed on.
